On  Being Ninety

Now that I'm ninety, I really am old

And never again will I do what I'm told

That pesky old conscience I've had all my life,

Whispering, "Listen, you've got to be nice."

I'm dumping it off, it's had a good run.

And now that I'm ninety, it's work is all done.

So, if I want to be cranky or cross,

I will be, for it's no longer my boss.

The words, "ought to" and "got to", I'll cross from my slate

I'll mutter and putter, and always be late.

I won't give a hoot what some people may think

For when you are ninety, how far can you sink?

There's only one lesson I learned from a sage -

"No matter how old you are just act your age!"

Special Events
