Bell Ringers:

The president had a number of Bell Ringers at the June meeting.

First for Ed Edwards and Jim Cavill, in recognition of their volunteer work.

Second recognizing the fact we have 4 recipients of the Order of Canada in our club – Alan Cairns, Ron Dunkley, Tom Jeary and John Panabaker.

Special Interest Groups

Book Club:

The September meeting will be at the home of John Panabaker on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at which time we will enjoy a discussion of the book "At Home" by Bill Brson. Feel free to join us.

Outdoors Group :

The Outdoors Group hikes on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. You can also find out about our times and locations for hikes by looking at the Event Calendar on the club website.

Financial Group:

The Financial Group will be meeting at Alan Watson`s home on Sept. 28th, 2012 from 9:30am to 11:00am. Our prime discussion topic will be the “Impact of the European financial crisis “ on Canada.  Our member count stands at nine. If you would like to join our group please contact Karl Kaufman.

Supper Club (New):

The purpose of the group would be socializing of members and guests during an evening meal. Groups of  people (Probus member and spouse/guest) would arrange to dine out once a month on a specified weekday of the month (e.g. First Wednesday).

Upcoming Events:

Oct. 4 – Fall Tour

Mark this date on your calendar. A tour is being planned to The Six Nations Reservation and War of 1812 sites.  This is especially timely given this is the bi-centennial of The War of 1812.  The cost is $55 per person including lunch.  This tour is filling up quickly. Tickets will be available at the Aug. meeting.  Additional details will be provided in a separate e-mail.

October 23 – Annual Probus Car Rally

The 12th Annual Probus car rally will take place Oct. 23. It will start early in the afternoon and will take about 2 hours of driving. As in previous years, there will be a refreshment break about midway through the rally and dinner at the end. The price per participant will be $40.00, which will cover the costs for the refreshment break and dinner.


December 12 – Christmas Luncheon

This popular event will once again be held at St. George's Banquet Hall. If you have ideas for entertainment please let Don Blain (539-664-0220) or Bruce Hannah (519-741-7377) know.
