Among the things that enable creativity are:

  • Necessity – a need for something
  • Initiative
  • Imagination
  • Flexibility
  • Frustration
  • Questioning the status quo
  • Desire to improve
  • Supportive superiors
  • Imbedded in Strategy #1

The top creative disablers are:

  • Family:
  • obsession with grades and not development & transformation
  • Poor definition of meaningful success
  • Freedom to wonder and explore and play
  • Academia:
  • Satisficing and Patterning
  • Impatience and making answers too accessible

  • Society
    • Mistakaphobia
  • Employers
  • Inability to integrate C-I-E into structure and controls
  • Defining output as the only measure of success
  • Not able to acquire and develop the right skills and conditions for C-I-E
  • Government
    • `Safe` policy that fails to encourage deeper levels of enterprise C-I-E

To create a Canadian C-I-E we need to:

  • Break traditional impediments
  • Reward creativity
  • Require longer term thinking
  • Train for creativity
